Originally from New York City, Mike Naylor holds a BFA in Sculpture from Purchase College NY and an MA in Art Education from The City College of New York.
Prior to relocating to Hawaii, Mike worked as a New York City public school teacher. In 2003 he and his wife Laura decided to move and settle in Hau’ula, Hawai’i. Mike took a position with the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts where he stayed for 10 years. The best part of that job for Mike was that he was able to work closely with many local Hawai’i artists and cultural organizations. It was while working at the Foundation that he learned about the complex culture of Hawai’i and its people. It is also where Mike and learned to love Polynesian culture, art and design. In 2012 Laura and Mike decided to open Monarch Tattoo Studio in Hau’ula where he is currently tattooing full time.
